Some Easy Sunday Listening… Helsinki 78-82 (Epidemic Remix)

February 28th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

This track has been blowing up all over the internet lately… and its schmooooove! Helsinki 78-82 is a disco throwback group put together by those boys from Finland, Top Billin. You’ve probably seen the simple and hip music video, but you haven’t heard the R-R-R-Remix! The original is too long and too spacey for the club, so i shortened the length and punched up the drums for maximum impact. Thrown on an iconic vocal sample and its a wrap!

Silver Medallion – Gravity (Epidemic Remix) (Parts 1 & 2)

February 26th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

I first made this track for Silver Medallion 2 YEARS AGO (!) and was the first remix i ever did… and it sounded like SHIT! It was about 5 minutes long with terrible audio quality and a track i would have never played for an audience.  I later took it to DJ JPaul of Havoc n’ Deed to beef it up with some mastering and while doing that, he also stripped it down to the basics.  This one remix and 2 years of learning has taught me the following lessons: “less is more” and mastering is essential. To show the difference between the beginning and end product, Im including both here so you can hear the world of difference…

“LET IT BAILE!” – The Beatles vs. Joao Brasil

February 25th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

Holy Gawd! Joao Brazil just don’t stop…

At the beginning of the January i did a post on the Silver Medallion blog, Get Your Swag Up, announcing Joao Brasil‘s monster project, 365 Mash-Ups, in which he creates one mash-up every single day for the entire year of 2010! Now, almost 3 months into the project, he has mashed the entire Beatles album, “Let it Be” with latin and baile funk beats underneath.  THIS SHIT IS BONKERS! The album artwork is pretty over the top too, just like most of Joao Brasil’s music.

Don’t sleep on this impressive project… Follow the links below to download the entire album and go visit Mr. Brasil at his blog, 365 Mash-Ups, to get new tracks every single day for the rest of this year.

Havoc N’ Deed – DopemaN Remix

February 24th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

Havoc N’ Deed is killing it right now! The production duo consisting of DJ’s JPaul and OB-One are getting prolific in their releases and are always consistent with song quality.  The Phoenix/Vegas production team has already released a Beatport single on Reid Speed‘s Play Me Records featuring the amazing tracks “Bass 4 Ya Face” and “Vindicta” which have been playlisted by everyone from Z-trip to Kissy Sell Out.  Beefy, bassy and monsterous dubstep is what you can expect whenever you see these guy’s names on the track.

The other day they sent me their newest bootleg/remix of the wast coast classic, NWA’s “Dopeman” and its too good to keep to myself.

@Fashen will Blow Your Head

February 22nd, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

I was on Fashen’s blog a few weeks ago and saw a curious post and Youtube video about a track he produced called “One”.  I couldn’t find it anywhere online so i figured i might get it form our mutual friend,  graphic guy, and DJ cohort Bigie AKA Meanmugg.  He did have it, and was kind enough to send it to me… so now im sharing it with you! It got me thinking of how amazing the original sample is and how its been used by so many people over the years from Diplo and Fashen currently to Public Enemy and De La Soul in the past. Keep the tradition alive by downloading all three and make your own mega-mix!

In doing some Youtube research for the post, i also found this video below, which is now the highlight of my day… if you’re an H.P. Lovecraft or Eli Escobar fan, Holla!

HeartBreaks “The Long Goodbye” Mix + Civic Space Jam (Downtown Phoenix)

February 21st, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

Good friend and fellow lover (not fighter), Anthony Hart A.K.A. HeartBreaks sent me his amazing hour long mix “The Long Goodbye” the other day… and it’s BUMPIN! Lots of broken beats, hip-hop remixes, spaced out vocal samples, and electronic love seemlessly mixed to create a hypnotic, soulful experience.  I have my suspicions as to who it was made for but i don’t care cuz im gonna steal it and give it to my girl, claiming it as my own! Just playing… kind of… but really, its that good!

HartBreaks – The Long Goodbye (Mixtape)

If you don’t know HeartBreaks, you get the chance to hang with him every Tuesday @ The Lost Leaf for Downtime, or one Sunday (TODAY!) a month for the free, all ages event, Civic Space Jam at Civic Space Park in downtown.

Also, the Phoenix New Times just named Mr. Hart the “Hipster King of Phoenix”… check out the article here.

Me-Phi Opens on Mill Ave (Tempe, AZ)

February 20th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

Mill Ave. finally has a shop to get some serious swag, designer sneakers, and boutique apparel & accessories. Its called Me-Phi and used to be a tiny store in Scottsdale, but has since relocated to a larger location in the heart of Tempe, AZ. Although its only been open a few weeks, its a great spot with lots of options, easy accessibility and a really friendly staff.  I haven’t told ANYONE about this place cuz i thought i could keep it all to myself, but that’s not gonna last too long anyways…

Check out their blog at WWW.ME-PHI.COM and then drop by the store to pick up some new clothes and support local business!

Cafe Con Leche (Epidemic “2010″ Remix)

February 20th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

Driving home a few months ago, i tuned into one of the local latin radio stations and heard my friend DJ Rocko playing the most amazing song that i didnt understand and had never heard before. It was in spanish (so i had no idea what they were saying) but it had all my favorite qualities: air-raid sires, fat distorted bass lines, and some dude yelling from what sounds like a megaphone.  With some quick questioning/harassing, I got Rocko to email me a copy of the track in question, “Cafe Con Leche” by El Presidente. I quickly started working on a remix and the day after i finished, my studio computer died! Thanks to the loving touch of DJ and Mac Genius, BC/AD, i got the computer and the remix back weeks later, had it mastered by DJ JPaul, and am now sharing it with you fine people. Latin house meets Baltimore club…

Ester Dean “Drop It Low” (Epidemic Remix)

February 19th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

This one is just in time for the weekend… Catch me playing this and many other great tunes tonight with CONGOROCK [Fools Gold, Italy] @ Bar Smith for Fuse Friday!

My good friend DJ Ephx came over the other week and helped me grind this one out…  If you know the original track, then you know it kills the club and has this polished/grimey element to it that’s got a lot of appeal.  So I sped up the beat, chopped some samples, and looped the vocals to create a track that punches you in the face!  I’m very proud of it and feel like its a real step towards making the kind of tracks that i would like to hear. Also it was mastered by a special someone who wishes to remain nameless… Hopefully you enjoy it too!

GUCCI GOTTA GET THROUGH THIS

February 18th, 2010 by EPIDEMIC

I’m sure everyone and their mom downloaded the Gucci Mane Re-Mixtape put out by Diplo and the good people @ Mad Decent last month.  Some of the biggest producers in electronic and club music today lent their help to the project and there was one track in particular i wanted to work into my sets… I’m The Shit (DJ Benzi & Willjoy Remix).  It samples David Beddingfield’s “Gotta Get Through This” and adds some more exiting, tribal, club drums to the mix but is also has vocal drops by Pitbull and Lil’ Jon in the beginning which wasn’t going to work at all.  Soooooooo, i made a short and long version of the track w/o the drops for myself and the good people who read this.
